The Things "We" Carried

The Things They Carried is a lot deeper than it may come off as.  It doesn't only refer to the physical items one carried along with them, but it refers to the mental weight one was forced to carry in a place like war.  Sometimes the smallest items that weren't war related meant the most.  They were often of the most importance when it came to keeping one sane also.  Away from home items like these are much needed.  For instance, something as small as a picture can mean so much in keeping you happy or also allowing you to stay strong and look forward to what is back home. When I went camping with my girlfriend back in high-school here is a list of what we brought.

We tried to bring as little as possible because we were very close to any supplies if we truly needed them.  Once we started camping out we realized there were a number of things that we forgot to bring.  We had each others company which helped a lot and it was funny too us how unprepared we were.  I can relate or have seen how much small items such as a picture can help though.  In our case, my girlfriends picture of our dog and also her mom helped a lot.  She was going through a very rough time because her mom had just passed away and loved having the picture to be able to look at.  She would just look at the picture and talk about old memories she had with  her mom.  This picture was the most comforting to her, although there were other things we could have used.  For this reason, I know how important something as simple as a picture can be.
